This morning began like many others—quiet, familiar, and intentional. A warm cup of tea in hand, I prepared myself for my daily routine of prayer. These moments, though simple, carry a sense of grounding. They remind me of who I am, what I believe, and the discipline I strive to uphold.

Days when routine slips through the cracks of a busy or distracted mind. But even in those moments, something remains constant—an awareness. A consciousness that faith is not only practiced through rituals, but also through the way we carry ourselves in everyday life.
This morning, my thoughts drifted toward hygiene.
In Islam, cleanliness is not just a recommendation—it is deeply embedded in the practice of faith. It is said that cleanliness is half of one’s faith, and when reflected upon, this carries layers of meaning. Hygiene is not limited to physical appearance; it is an act of respect—towards oneself, towards others, and towards the Creator.
It lives in the details:
- The way one ensures their body is clean before standing in prayer
- The care given to hair, skin, and nails
- The discipline of maintaining personal grooming, including areas often overlooked or considered private
These are not merely routines. They are acts of mindfulness.
But what makes this even more fascinating is that this emphasis on cleanliness is not unique to one belief system. Across cultures and traditions, hygiene has always held a place of importance—sometimes spiritual, sometimes social, sometimes symbolic.
In many parts of the world, cleanliness represents purity—not just of the body, but of intention. In others, it reflects dignity and self-respect. Some cultures embed hygiene into ritual practices, while others view it as a form of discipline and order in daily life.
This raises an interesting question:
Is hygiene simply about appearance, or is it a reflection of something deeper within us?
Perhaps it is both.
When we take care of how we smell, how we present ourselves, and how we maintain our bodies, we are not only responding to societal expectations—we are expressing a form of inner awareness. A quiet acknowledgment that the body we inhabit deserves care.
And maybe, just maybe, these small acts—trimming nails, caring for skin, maintaining cleanliness—are not as small as they seem. They are daily reminders of discipline, respect, and presence.
As I continue to write, reflect, and share through Pen by Zee and build mindful offerings through Jazeez, I am reminded that meaningful work is rarely a solo journey.
If my words or work have brought you even a moment of clarity, calm, or reflection, you can support these ventures in keeping them alive and growing.
Your support—whether through sharing, engaging, or contributing—helps sustain this space of intention and creativity.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
