I wanted wings,
but flying looked tiring,
so I hired a plant
to do the growing for me.
Now I sit on a shelf,
rooted yet smug,
watching humans rush past
with calendars and mugs.
They say, “That bird looks peaceful.”
I say, “Yes — and well hydrated.”
Turns out you don’t need the sky
to feel elevated.
