Dear Readers,

Below is the poem that I wrote in September 2024 when I was asked by a reader on another platform to write what rose would say to working class if Rose could talk.

Please do subscribe for more posts and if you can help me get a paid website for my writing project that would be most appreciated.

First thing I want to do when new year 2025 begins

Hi my Writing and Reading Family. This is a raw blog I am writing today while I prepare and plan for new year and what I want to do in the New Year.

I wish to fundraise for KiwiHarvest https://www.kiwiharvest.org.nz/ through the collection and resale of unwanted items. This could be small electronic items or kitchenware in fair resalable condition.

In doing so I have to work on below steps. What would be your suggestion to someone who has not done something relatively big like this. I have done some smaller fundraising before but this is going to be a very different one for me. I am reaching out to ask for help either with advise or any feedback you have.

1. Define my Campaign Objectives

  • Primary Goal: Raise funds for KiwiHarvest by selling donated items.
  • Secondary Goals: Promote awareness about KiwiHarvest and encourage sustainable practices like recycling and reusing.

2. Plan the Campaign Timeline

  • Duration: Decide how long the campaign will run. I think I will give it a time of between 3 to 4 months
  • Key Milestones:
    • Start Date: Launch with a clear announcement.
    • Midpoint Check-In: Share progress and re-engage my audience.
    • End Date: Celebrate success and thank donors and supporters.

3. Identify Collection Points

  • Partner with local businesses, schools, or community centers to set up collection points.
  • Arrange pick-up services for larger items or bulk donations.

4. Create a Donation Guide

  • Specify the types of items I will accept (e.g., clothing, books, electronics, furniture).
  • Provide guidelines for item conditions (e.g., clean, functional).

5. Organize a Sorting and Storage System

  • Sort items into categories for resale.
  • Partner with storage facilities or use personal/volunteer spaces for temporary storage.

6. Choose Resale Platforms

  • Online: Sell through platforms like Trade Me, Facebook Marketplace, or local community groups. These are all local platforms to New Zealand, where I live. I am open for receiving donations from overseas if you are willing to help me with my goal.
  • Offline: Organize garage sales, pop-up markets, or partner with thrift stores.

7. Develop a Marketing Strategy

  • I would name my Campaign as: “From Clutter to Compassion”
  • Social Media: Use platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn to share my mission, showcase items for sale, and post updates.
  • Flyers and Posters: Place them in community hubs, libraries, and schools.
  • Email Campaigns: Reach out to my network and local groups.
  • Media Outreach: Contact local newspapers or radio stations to feature my initiative.

8. Engage my Network and Community

  • Volunteers: Recruit friends, family, or community members to help with collection, sorting, and sales.
  • Businesses: Seek sponsorships or partnerships, such as donated storage space or promotion through their channels.

9. Track and Communicate Progress

  • Share regular updates on the campaignโ€™s impact (e.g., items collected, funds raised).
  • Highlight stories about KiwiHarvest to show the importance of my efforts.

10. Celebrate and Thank Supporters

  • Host a closing event or post a thank-you video acknowledging donors and volunteers.
  • Share a summary of the campaignโ€™s success and how the funds will help KiwiHarvest.

11. Ensure Transparency

  • Keep a clear record of funds raised and items sold.
  • Share updates with donors to build trust and credibility.

I am also looking to raise some funds for myself to get a paid website, if you would like to be part of my journey towards success please do help me with what ever help you can offer for this charity initiative or for my personal website. I am only needing NZD 50 -100 to accomplish my personal goal. For the Kiwi Harvest Charity I have not set a goal yet.

Mindfulness – How it transforms your day

Morning Rituals: How Mindfulness Transforms Your Day

Mindfulness has been a transformative journey for me, and Iโ€™m passionate about sharing its benefits with others. Whether youโ€™re already practicing mindfulness or considering it as part of your New Yearโ€™s resolutions, this is the perfect time to embrace a more present and intentional way of living. Letโ€™s connect as a community of like-minded individuals on this journey of self-discovery and growth. If you find this blog helpful, I encourage you to like, share, and subscribe to spread the word and inspire others.

The way you begin your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. In our fast-paced, always-connected world, itโ€™s easy to jump straight into the chaos of emails, social media, and to-do lists. But what if you started your day differently? What if, instead of rushing, you embraced a mindful morning routine that grounded you in peace and clarity?

Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment without judgment. Incorporating mindfulness into your morning rituals can transform how you experience your day, helping you navigate challenges with grace and stay focused on what truly matters. Here are some practical steps to infuse mindfulness into your mornings.

1. Begin with Gratitude

Start your day by acknowledging the blessings in your life. Before even getting out of bed, take a few deep breaths and think of three things youโ€™re grateful for. This simple practice shifts your mindset from stress to abundance and creates a positive foundation for your day.

Tip: Keep a gratitude journal by your bedside and jot down your thoughts each morning.

2. Practice Mindful Breathing

Breathing is something we often take for granted, yet itโ€™s a powerful tool for centering the mind. Spend five minutes focusing on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a moment, and exhale slowly through your mouth. This exercise calms the nervous system and brings your awareness to the present moment.

Try This: Use the mantra โ€œInhale calm, exhale stressโ€ as you breathe.

3. Engage in Gentle Movement

Stretching or practicing yoga in the morning helps release tension and awakens your body. Pair your movements with mindful awareness, paying attention to how your body feels with each stretch or pose. Even a simple sun salutation sequence can do wonders.

Bonus: Practicing mindful movement aligns beautifully with the concepts shared in Mindfulness for Everyday Life, particularly the chapter on embodied awareness.

4. Create a Mindful Morning Beverage Ritual

Whether itโ€™s a cup of tea, coffee, or warm lemon water, treat your morning drink as a moment of mindfulness. Notice the aroma, temperature, and taste with each sip. This practice grounds you in the moment and turns a routine activity into a calming ritual.

Suggestion: Avoid multitasking during this time; simply enjoy the act of sipping.

5. Set Daily Intentions

Take a few moments to set an intention for your day. Ask yourself, โ€œWhat do I want to focus on today?โ€ or โ€œHow do I want to show up?โ€ Write your intention on a sticky note or in your journal as a gentle reminder throughout the day.

Example Intentions:

  • โ€œI will approach challenges with patience and curiosity.โ€
  • โ€œToday, I will prioritize kindness toward myself and others.โ€

6. Disconnect to Reconnect

Avoid reaching for your phone first thing in the morning. Instead, give yourself at least 30 minutes of device-free time to connect with yourself. This practice reduces mental clutter and allows you to start your day with clarity and purpose.

Pro Tip: Use this time to read a book, meditate, or simply enjoy the stillness.

Why Morning Mindfulness Matters

Mindful mornings create a ripple effect throughout your day. When you start with intentionality and peace, youโ€™re better equipped to handle stress, make thoughtful decisions, and maintain emotional balance. By anchoring yourself in the present moment, you invite more joy and less reactivity into your life.

Tides of Destiny Ch 11

Chapter 11: A Glimpse of Truth
The chilling revelation in the secret chamber lingered in Aileen’s mind as she retraced her steps up the spiral staircase. In Chapter 10, she had unearthed a weathered map and cryptic letters that hinted at betrayal, sacrifice, and forbidden loveโ€”threads intricately woven into the tapestry of the manor’s dark past. The mapโ€™s faded ink and torn edges seemed to mark locations both within and outside the manor. As for the letters, Damienโ€™s name was mentioned, alongside cryptic references to a mysterious figure, simply addressed as The Keeper.
The storm brewing outside mirrored the tempest in Aileenโ€™s heart. The journal entries, the letters, and the eerie connection with Eleanorโ€™s ghost pointed to something far more sinister than just a tale of lost love. Something had been hiddenโ€”something dangerous.

The following morning, Aileen sat in the parlor, the journal and letters spread before her. The manor was quieter than usual, as though holding its breath. The map haunted her thoughts, its markings leading to unknown secrets. Eleanorโ€™s words whispered through her mind: โ€œThe storm will come, and with it, the truth will rise.โ€
A sudden knock at the front door startled her. She hadnโ€™t expected visitors. Brushing her thoughts aside, she rose to answer, only to find the local historian, Mr. Fletcher, standing in the rain-soaked doorway. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes carried a mix of curiosity and concern.
โ€œI hope Iโ€™m not intruding,โ€ he said, stepping inside and shaking the water off his coat. โ€œI thought you might need some help with your research.โ€
Aileen hesitated before nodding. โ€œIโ€™ve found some… interesting things.โ€ She led him to the parlor and gestured to the scattered papers.
Mr. Fletcher examined them with a practiced eye. โ€œThis map,โ€ he murmured, tracing the lines with a finger. โ€œIt leads to the estate’s southern woods, near the ruins of an old chapel.โ€
โ€œChapel?โ€ Aileenโ€™s voice wavered. The word stirred something deep within her. โ€œWhy wasnโ€™t it mentioned in any of the records I read?โ€
โ€œIt was destroyed over a century ago,โ€ Mr. Fletcher replied. โ€œThere were rumors, thoughโ€”about strange rituals, a secret society, and a treasure hidden beneath its altar.โ€
Aileenโ€™s pulse quickened. โ€œTreasure?โ€
โ€œNot gold or jewels,โ€ he clarified. โ€œSomething more profound. Some say itโ€™s the truth about the manorโ€™s curse.โ€

The rain had subsided by the time Aileen and Mr. Fletcher reached the ruins of the chapel. The ground was soft beneath their boots, the air thick with the scent of moss and decay. The ruins were overgrown, the remnants of stone walls barely visible through the tangled vines.
With Mr. Fletcherโ€™s help, Aileen navigated to the center of the ruins, where the altar once stood. The map indicated a spot nearby. Aileen knelt, brushing aside the leaves and dirt until her fingers hit something solidโ€”stone.
โ€œHelp me,โ€ she urged, and together they cleared the area to reveal a stone slab, engraved with a symbol that matched the design on the map.
Mr. Fletcher frowned. โ€œThis symbol… itโ€™s older than the manor. Medieval, perhaps.โ€
Aileenโ€™s heart raced as they pried the slab open. Beneath it was a narrow tunnel leading into the earth. The air was cold and musty, carrying a sense of foreboding.

The tunnel descended sharply, the walls lined with ancient carvings. Aileenโ€™s flashlight cast long shadows, revealing depictions of angels and demons locked in battle. At the end of the passage was a small chamber, its walls covered in murals. In the center stood a pedestal, upon which rested a single, unmarked chest.
With trembling hands, Aileen opened the chest. Inside was a bundle of parchment, fragile with age. Unfolding the top sheet, she gasped. It was a confessionโ€”a declaration of guilt and love written by Eleanor.
The letter revealed the truth about Eleanor and Damienโ€™s tragic love, but it also mentioned The Keeper as someone who had forced their hand, threatening them with ruin if they didnโ€™t comply with a sinister plan.

As they left the chapel ruins, Aileenโ€™s mind was ablaze with questions. Who was The Keeper? What was this plan that had doomed Eleanor and Damien? And how was Aileen herself connected to all of this?
Back at the manor, as Aileen prepared to study the letters further, she heard a faint melody echoing through the hallsโ€”a song she recognized from her dreams. Following the sound, she arrived at the grand piano in the parlor.
The lid was open, but no one was there. On the pianoโ€™s surface lay a single rose, its petals as crimson as blood. Aileen picked it up, and a voiceโ€”Eleanorโ€™s voiceโ€”whispered from nowhere:
“Beware, Aileen. The truth you seek comes at a cost.”
The piano lid slammed shut, the sound echoing through the house, leaving Aileen standing alone in the dimly lit room, the weight of Eleanorโ€™s warning heavy in her chest.

“Balancing the Scales: Understanding New Zealandโ€™s Minimum Wage Proposal for 2025”

In the heart of Wellington, amidst the historic Beehive, policymakers gathered to deliberate a matter affecting countless New Zealanders: the minimum wage. The outcome of their discussions would ripple through households, businesses, and communities nationwide.

Understanding the Proposed Changes

On 17 December 2024, Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke van Velden announced a 1.5% increase in the adult minimum wage, raising it from $23.15 to $23.50 per hour, effective 1 April 2025. This adjustment marks the smallest percentage increase since the 1990s.

RNZ

The starting-out and training minimum wages will also rise, maintaining their position at 80% of the adult minimum wage.

Historical Context

To appreciate the significance of this change, let’s examine the trajectory of New Zealand’s minimum wage over the past five years:

YearAdult Minimum WagePercentage Increase
2021$20.005.3%
2022$21.206.0%
2023$22.707.1%
2024$23.152.0%
2025$23.501.5%

Table 1: New Zealand Adult Minimum Wage Rates and Annual Percentage Increases (2021-2025)

Economic Implications

The modest increase reflects the government’s commitment to balancing fair wages with economic stability. Minister van Velden emphasized that this decision considers the current economic climate and labor market conditions.

RNZ

However, some labor advocates argue that the increase may not sufficiently address the rising cost of living. For context, the New Zealand Living Wage rate for 2024/25 is set at $27.80 per hour, significantly higher than the proposed minimum wage.

Living Wage Aotearoa New Zealand

Sectoral Impact

Industries heavily reliant on minimum wage workers, such as retail and hospitality, will need to adjust their payrolls accordingly. While some business owners express concerns about increased operational costs, others recognize the potential for improved employee satisfaction and productivity.

Interactive Element: Wage Distribution Across Sectors

Consider the following diagram illustrating the distribution of minimum wage workers across various sectors:

Diagram 1: Distribution of Minimum Wage Workers by Industry

Personal Story: A Day in the Life

Meet Aroha, a single mother working in Auckland’s hospitality industry. Earning the current minimum wage, she balances two jobs to support her family. The proposed increase offers a slight relief, but she wonders if it will be enough to keep pace with living expenses.

Interactive Questions

  1. How do you think the proposed minimum wage increase will affect individuals like Aroha?
  2. In your opinion, what is the ideal balance between supporting workers and ensuring economic stability?
  3. How might businesses adapt to accommodate the wage increase without compromising their operations?

Conclusion

The forthcoming adjustment to New Zealand’s minimum wage encapsulates the delicate act of balancing economic prudence with the well-being of its workforce. As the nation moves forward, the real-world impacts of this decision will unfold in the lives of individuals and the broader economy.

Note: The information presented is based on data available as of December 2024. For the most current details, please refer to official government publications and announcements.

Tides of Destiny Ch 10

Chapter 10: Echoes in the Dark

The storm raged outside the manor, its howling winds battering the ancient windows. Inside, the air was no less charged. Aileen sat at the desk in the newly discovered study, her fingers trembling as she held the golden locket sheโ€™d found beneath the floorboards. The delicate clasp finally gave way, revealing two miniature portraits inside.

One was unmistakably Eleanor, her eyes vibrant with life and ambition. The other was a man whose face was partially obscured, but the intensity in his gaze was undeniable. Aileenโ€™s mind raced. Was this Damien? Or someone else from Eleanorโ€™s tangled past?

The room seemed to grow colder as she studied the portraits, and a sudden gust of wind extinguished the candles, plunging her into near darkness.

โ€œAileen.โ€

The voice was faint, but it echoed through the room like a bell. Aileen froze, the locket slipping from her grasp and clattering onto the desk. Her pulse thundered in her ears as she turned, her eyes straining to pierce the gloom.

โ€œWhoโ€™s there?โ€ she whispered, though her voice was barely audible.

The shadows seemed to shift, and for a moment, she saw her reflection in the mirror across the room. But it wasnโ€™t alone. Behind her stood a figureโ€”its form hazy, its features indistinct.

https://www.bynatureskincare.co.nz/?oid=109&affid=333&creative_id=395

Aileen bolted from her chair, her heart hammering. She grabbed the journal from the desk and fled the room, slamming the door behind her. The hallway outside was no more comforting; it felt like the walls themselves were watching her, their warped wood creaking with every step.

She hurried to her bedroom, locking the door and lighting every candle she could find. The journal lay open on the bed, Eleanorโ€™s elegant script beckoning her back into the past.

Eleanorโ€™s Journal, 1883

Damien has been distant, his moods as unpredictable as the sea. The locket he gave meโ€”our secret bondโ€”has grown heavier around my neck. He speaks of shadows that follow him, whispers he cannot escape. I fear the manorโ€™s grip is tightening on us both.

Tonight, he came to me with wild eyes, clutching papers he refused to let me see. โ€œEleanor,โ€ he said, โ€œif I should vanish, if the storm takes me, promise youโ€™ll remember this: the truth lies beneath the rose.โ€

I pressed him for answers, but he only kissed my forehead and disappeared into the night. The next morning, he was gone.

Aileen ran her fingers over the faded ink, her chest tightening. The parallels between Eleanorโ€™s time and her own were growing impossible to ignore. What truth lay beneath the rose?

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at her doorโ€”soft, hesitant, but persistent.

โ€œWho is it?โ€ Aileen called, her voice wavering.

No answer.

She hesitated before stepping toward the door, her hand hovering over the handle. Slowly, she unlocked and opened it. The hallway was empty.

But at her feet was a single rose, its petals dark as blood. Beneath it lay a slip of parchment, folded neatly. Aileenโ€™s hands shook as she picked it up and unfolded it.

โ€œMeet me in the garden at midnight. The answers you seek await.โ€

The note was unsigned, but the handwriting was eerily familiar. It mirrored the script in Eleanorโ€™s journal.

Midnight in the Garden

The storm had subsided, leaving the garden shrouded in mist. Aileen clutched a lantern, its flickering light barely cutting through the fog. She stepped carefully along the overgrown path, her heart pounding with every crunch of the gravel beneath her boots.

The fountain loomed ahead, its angels seeming to watch her approach. At its base stood a figure cloaked in shadow.

โ€œYou came,โ€ the figure said, their voice low and gravelly.

Aileen held up the lantern, the light revealing an older man with a weathered face and piercing eyes. He was dressed in clothes that seemed out of time, their style reminiscent of another era.

โ€œWho are you?โ€ Aileen demanded, her voice steadier than she felt.

โ€œSomeone who has been waiting a long time,โ€ the man replied. He gestured toward the fountain. โ€œDo you know what lies beneath?โ€

Aileen shook her head.

โ€œEleanorโ€™s secret,โ€ he said, his gaze distant. โ€œAnd Damienโ€™s sin.โ€

The man stepped forward, holding out a key that matched the one Aileen had found earlier. โ€œThis manor is a web of lies and love, of betrayal and destiny. If you wish to untangle it, you must be willing to face the darkness.โ€

Aileen hesitated before taking the key. The man smiled faintly, but it was a smile laced with sorrow.

โ€œGood luck, Aileen,โ€ he said before turning and disappearing into the mist.

Back in the Manor

Aileen couldnโ€™t sleep. The key burned in her pocket like a talisman of both hope and fear. The journal lay open beside her, its words a labyrinth she was determined to navigate.

As dawn broke, she resolved to return to the fountain. Whatever lay beneath the rose, it was time to uncover it.

But as she reached for the journal, she noticed something she hadnโ€™t seen before: a faint watermark on one of the pages. Holding it up to the light, she saw an intricate designโ€”a crest bearing the initials โ€œD.M.โ€

Damienโ€™s mark.

The past and present were colliding, their echoes growing louder. And Aileen knew she was only just beginning to unravel the Tides of Destiny.

Novel – Tides of Destiny Ch – 9

Suspenseful and eerie atmosphere of the Manor’s mysterious Corridor

Chapter 9: Whispers in the Shadows

The rain came unannounced, tapping against the manorโ€™s tall windows like impatient fingers. Thunder rolled in the distance, a sound that reverberated through Aileenโ€™s chest as she sat by the fire in the grand library. The journal lay open in her lap, and despite the warmth of the flames, she couldnโ€™t shake the chill that had taken residence in her bones.

Eleanorโ€™s voice, immortalized in the aged ink, seemed louder tonightโ€”more urgent. The latest entry Aileen had discovered spoke of betrayal and anguish, yet its final lines hinted at redemption:

“The truth lies beneath the veil of shadows, where no light dares to tread. To confront it, one must have courage stronger than the storm.”

The storm was here now, pounding against the manor as if trying to breach its ancient walls. Aileen closed the journal and rose, the hair on her arms prickling with an inexplicable sense of foreboding.

She wandered the hallways, her footsteps echoing in the vast emptiness. The house seemed alive in the storm, groaning and creaking as though sharing its secrets in low whispers. The chandelier above swayed slightly, casting moving shadows across the walls.

As she approached the staircase, a flash of movement caught her eye. It was subtleโ€”just a flicker in the corner of her visionโ€”but it was enough to stop her in her tracks. โ€œHello?โ€ she called, her voice steady despite the racing of her heart.

There was no answer, only the distant rumble of thunder.

But then she saw it again. A shadow moved at the edge of the hallway, slipping into the adjoining corridor. Aileen felt a pull, as though an invisible thread was drawing her toward it. She followed, the journal clutched tightly against her chest.

The corridor led her to a part of the house she had never explored. The wallpaper here was peeling, the floorboards warped with age. A faint, sweet scent hung in the airโ€”lavender mixed with something metallic. At the end of the hallway stood a door, slightly ajar, with a faint glow spilling from within.

Her fingers trembled as she pushed it open. The room was small, dominated by an oval mirror framed in ornate gold. Candles were placed haphazardly around the room, their flames flickering as if in response to her presence. On a nearby table lay a scattering of old letters tied with a faded ribbon.

Aileen approached the mirror cautiously. Its surface shimmered unnaturally, as though it were a portal rather than mere glass. She reached out, her reflection shifting oddlyโ€”her movements not quite aligning with what she saw.

Then, the surface rippled.

Eleanor appeared again, her expression anguished. Behind her stood a figure obscured in shadow, his presence looming and ominous. Aileen stepped back, her breath catching in her throat as Eleanorโ€™s voice echoed faintly in the room.

“Beware the keeper of lies. He watches. He waits.”

A sudden gust extinguished the candles, plunging the room into darkness. Aileen fumbled for the letters on the table, grabbing them before bolting out of the room. The air felt heavy, pressing against her as she raced back to the library.

Safely back in the glow of the fire, she untied the ribbon around the letters. The handwriting was unfamiliarโ€”deliberate and precise. The words within revealed a side of Eleanor she hadnโ€™t yet uncovered. These letters werenโ€™t to Damien. They were to someone else entirely.

“You promised me freedom, yet I am more trapped than ever.”
“The house is not safe. He knows. He always knows.”
“Meet me beneath the garden, where no eyes can follow.”

The last letter ended abruptly, the ink smeared as if written in haste. Aileenโ€™s heart raced as the pieces began to form a disturbing picture. There had been someone elseโ€”a third player in this tragic game of love and betrayal. But who?

Before she could dwell further, a loud crash echoed through the house. It came from the west wing, where the forbidden room lay. Her instinct was to run the other way, but something compelled her forward.

The room was as she had left it, though the air felt colder, the shadows deeper. The mirror was cracked now, a jagged line running through its center. But it was the writing scrawled across the surface in dark, dripping ink that made her blood run cold:

“Leave now, or share her fate.”

Aileenโ€™s knees buckled, and she gripped the doorframe for support. Eleanorโ€™s story was no longer just a haunting memory. It was alive, pulsing through the house like a dark heartbeat, and now it was coming for her.

But Aileen wasnโ€™t ready to leave. Not yet. The manor held its secrets too tightly, and she was determined to pry them loose. She glanced at the journal and the letters, now scattered across the floor. The storm outside howled in unison with the tempest inside her.

This wasnโ€™t just Eleanorโ€™s story anymore. It was hers, too.
